Born from a land of extremes, the deserts of India's northwestern frontier, steel, bronze, sand and fire combine to create bells with a range of tones that are primarily mesmerizing.
Each desert bell s beaten into shape by hand, then baked under the sand in make-shift kilns. This annealing gives each bell its unique patina. A network of artisans linked by a co-operative keeps this ancient skill alive.
